إحدى أكبر مفاجآت الاحتجاجات السلمية التي اجتاحت اليمن في 2011 تمثلت في بروز مشاركة النساء في نداءات التغيير.

كانت المرأة ومازالت تشارك في صنع ثورات التغيير، لم تقيّدها العادات والتقاليد ولم يكن الحجاب أو عدمه حاجزا لها. فالمرأة العربية أصبحت في الخط الأول في مظاهرات التغيير على أرض الواقع، وعلى مواقع التواصل الاجتماعي تدعم هذه الثورات ليس فقط بالكتابة بل بتغطية الأحداث و نشرها على نطاق أوسع

The new prime minister of Somalia, rated as one of the worst places in the world to be a woman, has appointed a female foreign minister. Fauzia Yusuf Haji Adan was one of two women chosen to join a lean cabinet of 10 ministers charged with leading the east African country out of decades of conflict and building on military gains made against the Islamist militants of al-Shabaab.

This weekend when she stood up for the first time since being laid low by the dreadful attack, the world witnessed her standing up for 32 million girls around the world who are denied daily their right to go to a classroom and learn. 

صدر التقرير العالمي لسد الفجوة بين الجنسين للعام 2012 عن المنتدى الإقتصادي العالمي، وأشار البيان الصحفي المرافق لإطلاق التقرير الى التقدم البطيء في سد الفجوة بين الجنسين في الإقتصاد العالمي. وفي الوقت الذي حافظت فيه الدول الإسكندنافية على صدارة القائمة المكونة من 135 دولة ، لا زالت الدول العربية تقبع في ذيل القائمة مع تراجع جديد لسبع دول عربية ومنها الأردن ومحافظة ثلاث منها على نفس التصنيف وتقدم دولتين هما الجزائر وعٌمان.
