UK: New Report on Sharia Law in Britain

A new report by One Law for All has found Sharia Councils and Muslim Arbitration Tribunals to be in violation of UK law, public policy and human rights (see report here). The report is being launched to coincide with a 20 June 2010 rally on the issue of Sharia law.

اندونيسيا: الضوابط الجديدة التي تحرم النساء من ارتداء "الملابس الضيقة" تتعرض للانتهاك

إن الحملة العالمية "أوقفوا قتل ورجم النساء" والشبكة العالمية للتضامن "النساء في ظل قوانين المسلمين" قلقان بشأن إصدار ضوابط جديدة في مقاطعة "غرب أتشيا" في اندونيسيا والذي يحرم المسلمين وخاصة النساء من إرتداء ملابس ضيقة. هذه الضوابط صدرت الخميس 27 مايو 2010 من قبل رئيس مقاطعة "غرب أتشيا". وسكان هذه المقاطعة من غير المسلمين، أوالذين يقطنون بصورة مؤقتة، مطالبون بإحترام وتبني هذه الضوابط الجديدة. وتعد "غرب أتشيا" أول مقاطعة في أندونسيا تطبق وبصرامة "الزي الإسلامي". وإذا وقعت هذه الضوابط من قبل السلطة الإقليمية ستكون المقاطعة بأكملها مجبرة على تطبيق الضوابط الجديدة.

باكستان: مجزرة دموية ضد الطائفة الأحمدية

شن مسلحون يعتقد انهم ينتمون لحركة طالبان باكستان يحملون بنادق وقنابل يدوية هجوماً دموياً على مسجدين يعودان للطائفة الأحمدية التي تشكل إحدى الأقليات في باكستان، بالتزامن مع توقيت صلاة الجمعة، وذلك في مدينة لاهور شرقي البلاد. وقالت وسائل إعلام باكستانية إن الهجومين أسفرا عن سقوط عشرات القتلى والجرحى فضلا عن احتجاز رهائن داخل من بين أفراد الطائفة الذين سبق أن تعرضوا لمضايقات من قبل الحركات السنية المتشددة في البلاد، دون أن يصل الأمر إلى حد التعرض لهجمات كبيرة من هذا النوع.

We cannot possibly claim, as a country, that we value freedom of speech above all else. If we did so, we would choke on the magnitude of our hypocrisy. When, in human history, has the oppression of a country’s own citizens paid dividends to either the oppressed or the oppressors? In recent times, we as Pakistanis have developed not an immunity, but a resistance to the mental strain of terrorism. This is a tragedy of the times, and a triumph of our spirit. Recently, however, we encountered a new horror, one that I hope we shall never inure ourselves to: shame.

Al-Jazeera's Arabic channel takes pride of place among Middle East's satellite news outlets. It was the first of its kind, broadcasting – ostensibly with an unprecedented level of editorial independence – to a pan-Arab audience. It broke taboos and shocked audiences by hosting guests on debate shows who attacked the hitherto unassailable: the Saudi royal family, the Palestinian Authority and the Muslim clergy. In 2006, the channel even helped launch the infamous Wafa Sultan's career when she was a guest on The Opposite Direction.

West Aceh, Indonesia: New regulation forbidding the wearing of 'tight clothing’ by women may be open to abuse

The Global Campaign to Stop Killing and Stoning Women and the International Solidarity Network, Women Living Under Muslim Laws (WLUML) are jointly concerned about the issuance of a new regulation in the district of West Aceh, Indonesia, which strictly forbids Muslims, especially women, to wear tight clothes. The new regulation was issued on Thursday, 27 May 2010, by the Head of the district of West Aceh. Non-Muslims who reside in West Aceh or are temporarily present in West Aceh are also required to respect and to adapt to the new regulation. This new regulation makes West Aceh the first district in the country to strictly implement an ‘Islamic’ dress code and if signed by the Provincial Governor would eventually be enforced in the entire province of Aceh.

A freebee giveaway Harkatul Ansar clock : hands are a Kalshnikov, four of the five pillars of Islam mark the quarter hour points. The fifth pillar, Tauheed, replaced by Jehad. There was a front page photograph the day after the Lahore massacres, of an elderly Ahmedi with a cap and small white beard, hands ‘clasped together in a prayer of sorts’ as Dawn captioned it. ‘Of sorts’. Even Dawn did not want to risk calling it prayer. The photo reminded me of the iconic picture taken during the Gujarat carnage in India, 2002, in which a Muslim man, hands clasped, pleads for his life.

En Belgique, le parlement mettait en débat un projet de loi interdisant aux femmes de porter la burqa dans les lieux publics.
