International Women’s Rights Network horrified at the shooting of a 14-year old education rights activist by the Taliban

Women Living Under Muslim Laws (WLUML) strongly condemns the attempted assassination on school girl and activist, Malala Yousufzai for promoting female education. Spirited and outspoken, Malala has been an advocate for girls’ access to education in her region from the age of 11 “dreaming of a day where education prevails”.

Media Advocacy for Sexual and Reproductive Rights: A Script Development Workshop, a project by Puan Pandhita, Indonesia

Puan Pandhita’s organizational goal is to build critical consciousness about women’s sexual and reproductive rights to the society through visual media and build this network of consciousness among women.

Project Objectives:

Boxing programme for lesbian women and publication of Kongkow Lez, projects of Institute Pelangi Perempuan (IPP), Indonesia

IPP focuses on the empowerment of young lesbians (18 – 30 years old) in Indonesia. IPP uses a strategy called EDUFUNTAINMENT (Education, Fun and Entertainment) and the promotion of cool politics.

Study of Sexual Harassment of Female Staff in Government Ministries in Afghanistan in Preparation for a Campaign, a project of Women for Afghan Women, Afghanistan

The objectives of this project were:

To ascertain the nature and extent of sexual harassment and gender discrimination in the Ministries of the GoA by means of a questionnaire to be completed anonymously by a sampling of male and female employees of representative Ministries, and
To develop a workshop to educate staff in Ministries regarding sexual harassment and discrimination of women.

Indonesian Campaign to review the anti-Pornography Law

Since the enactment of Indonesia's pornography law No. 44 in 2008, the women’s activists coalition of South Sulawesi rejected the bill and urged the government to withdraw the law. Their legal effort - a judicial review of this pornography act - was rejected by the constitutional court.

Campaign: Aceh Woman's Strategy for Bodily Autonomy under Political Islam - project by Solidaritas Perempuan Bungeung Jeumpa, Aceh

The implementation of Islamic Sharia Qanun in Aceh has contributed to increased violence against women. This can be seen in the implementation of Islamic Sharia in Aceh that was focused on the matter of women's clothing, which also limited women's mobility, as can be seen on the case of the removal of the woman subdistrict head in the Bireun regency. Therefore, SP Aceh saw that violence against women in Aceh is directly impacted by the politicization of religion by concerned parties in Aceh.
