Sudan: Woman condemned to death released after international pressure

Today’s release of Meriam Yehya Ibrahim, a Christian Sudanese woman sentenced to death by hanging for ‘apostasy’ and to flogging for ‘adultery’, is a step towards undoing the horrific injustice visited on her, said Amnesty International today.

UK: Forced marriage law sends 'powerful message'

A new law in England and Wales making it a criminal offence to force people into marriage sends "a powerful message", campaigners have said.

From today, parents who force their children to marry can be punished by up to seven years in prison.

THE DEATH OF A WOMAN-A BRUTAL KILLING CAUSES FEW RIPPLES.

On Tuesday morning, a 25-year-old woman by the name of Farzana Iqbal was beaten to death by her family. Farzana was on her way to the Lahore High Court when her father, her brother, and a mob of family members attacked her with guns. When they missed, she ran but her brother grabbed her headscarf, making her fall down. As she lay on the ground, she begged for her life. In response, her family members smashed her head in with bricks.

Laughter and Learning in the Sun: Feminist Leadership Workshops in West Africa

The last two months at WLUML have been a busy time! Two feminist leadership workshops took place in West Africa under the Women’s Empowerment and Leadership for Development and Democratisation (WELDD) programme. Banjul, on Gambia’s ‘smiling coast’ was the setting for the Anglophone Africa training, and the following month saw the Francophone Africa workshop take place in Dakar, Senegal.
