BAOBAB for Women's Human Rights The Amina Lawal appeal came up at the Katsina State Court of Appeal on 23rd January, 2003 in Katsina.
The team of lawyers working for Amina Lawal was led by Musa Yawuri and appearing with him were Mariam Imhanobe of Women's Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA) and Hauwa Ibrahim, a private legal practitioner. The state was represented by a five man team.
The case was adjourned to 25th March 2003 because the state had only received the documents for the appeal on the 22nd January 2003 a day before the said appeal. The state argued that they needed more time to seek for consultation and opinion in the interest of justice. Musa Yawuri asked for a three week adjournment so as not to delay the process because of the emotional stress on Amina and due to her poor health. BAOBAB for Women's Human Rights will follow the case and to ensure that due process is adhered to so that the case is concluded in the law courts.
