 قال نشطون فلسطينيون في مجال الدفاع عن حقوق المرأة ان ارتفاع عدد حالات قتل النساء في الضفة الغربية الذي وصل الى سبع حالات منذ بداية العام الجاري مُقارنة مع تسع حالات طيلة العام الماضي يجب ان يدق ناقوس الخطر ويخلق تحركا شعبيا ورسميا لوضع حد لذلك. وقالت حنان ابو غوش منسقة توثيق قتل النساء تعليقا على ما يسمى قضايا الدفاع عن الشرف في مركز المرأة للارشاد القانوني "شهدت بداية عام 2010 زيادة كبيرة في عدد النساء القتلى نحن نتحدث عن سبع حالات قتل في الضفة الغربية تشير تحقيقاتنا الى ان خمسا منها على الاقل تمت على خلفية ما يسمى الدفاع عن شرف العائلة." 

تدعيّ الأغلبية من أبناء وبنات شعبنا، أنَّ قتل النساء – عادة بمسمىّ الشرف- ليس أمرًا يمكن تسميته بـ"الظاهرة". وهناك من يذهب أبعد من ذلك ليتظاهر بأنّه أصلاً لم يسمع في حياته عن الموضوع، بينما تعرف كل امرأة – تقريباً بشكل طبيعي– أنه في حال "تمادت" (والحدود هيولية، غير معروفة دائما، وبإمكانها أن تتغير من قرية أو مدينة أو عائلة إلى أخرى) فإنَّ "عقوبة الموت" أو على الأقل عنفا ما سيهدّدها.
يبدو إذًا، وللوهلة الأولى، أننّا نعيش في مجتمعين، أو مجتمعٍ واحدٍ يعاني انقسامًا شديدًا. فبين مشاعر ومخاوف النساء فيه، وبين الآراء "العلنية" التي تلغي وجود الظاهرة من أصلها ثمّة فرق شاسع ومريب.

There is an internal document that has not been leaked, or perhaps has not even been written, but all the forces are acting according to its inspiration: the Shin Bet, Israel Defense Forces, Border Police, police, and civil and military judges. They have found the true enemy who refuses to whither away: The popular struggle against the occupation. Over the past few months, the efforts to suppress the struggle have increased. The target: Palestinians and Jewish Israelis unwilling to give up their right to resist reign of demographic separation and Jewish supremacy. The means: Dispersing demonstrations with live ammunition, late-night army raids and mass arrests.

Today the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies released its second annual report on the state of human rights in the Arab world for the year 2009.  The report, entitled Bastion of Impunity, Mirage of Reform, concludes that the human rights situation in the Arab region has deteriorated throughout the region over the last year. The report reviews the most significant developments in human rights during 2009 in 12 Arab countries: Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Sudan, Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Yemen. It also devotes separate chapters to the Arab League and an analysis of the performance of Arab governments in UN human rights institutions.
