Iraq/UK: Our life in pieces

Act Together
Act Together - Women Against Sanctions on Iraq is a group of UK-based Iraqi and non-Iraqi women.
There are currently about four million Iraqi exiles worldwide and many thousands in the UK. They reflect the rich cultural diversity of the country: Arabs, Kurds, Assyrians, Mandaeans, Turkomans, Muslims, Jews, Christians… Act Together have organised an exhibition of personal objects - repositories of personal, family and social memory and history; emblems, talismans, objects of fantasy. Cheap, expensive, small, large, old, new. Next to each is a text in which the owner considers the object’s meaning, its significance and history. This exhibition conveys the lives, culture and circumstances of ordinary Iraqis, who often feel they have been silenced and that their experience counts for nothing.
