Sisters in Islam (SIS) welcomes the decision of the government to appoint women to serve as judges in the Syariah courts.
SIS notes that, 'With the increase in the number of women graduates qualified in the areas of Islamic law and jurisprudence from various universities, both within the country as well as from abroad, and the increase in the number of women becoming syarie lawyers, professors, lecturers, officers and professionals in syariah related areas, we believe that there is now a sufficient number of qualified women candidates who may be considered for appointment as syariah court judges.'
