Muthoni Wanyeki is a political scientist who works on development communications, gender and human rights and has published in these fields. She currently works as the Executive Director of the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC), a national, non-governmental organisation that works to promote all human rights of all Kenyans through research and advocacy as well as civic action. She previously worked, for seven years, as the Executive Director of the African Women's Development and Communication Network (FEMNET), a pan-African membership organisation working towards African women's development, equality and other human rights through advocacy at the regional and international levels, training on gender mainstreaming and communications. She serves as an advisor/Board member for several African and other organisations, including: Akina Mama wa Afrika (AMwA) in Kampala; Article 19's Africa programme in London; the Forum International de Montreal (FIM); the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA); and the Open Society Initiative's Afrimap and Justice Initiative-Africa in Johannesburg and Abuja respectively. She is also a political columnist for the East African, a sub-regional weekly newspaper published by the Nation Media Group (NMG) in Nairobi.
