“The Law of Inheritance and Reported Case Law Relating to Women”

This paper discusses the trends of the superior courts on succession and inheritance rights available to women in Pakistan. While analysing some relevant landmark judgements from independence to 1992, the changes and development in the law regarding succession and inheritance over a much longer period of time have been traced. The analysis of case law has shown that although courts have taken a sympathetic view of women's right of inheritance, actual cases that have come to the courts are a bare minimum reflecting both a reluctance to approach courts and the difficulties women face when demanding this right.
